The ShuttleVan was a 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan. She spent her first 10 years and 175,000 miles as a mundane workhorse for a workaholic road warrior, but in 2006 she was reborn as an art car tribute to NASA's Space Shuttle Program. She sported a 7' tailfin, realistic thruster cones and 2500 handpainted tiles. Her custom interior included a 1700 watt fog machine that billowed 10,000 cubic feet per minute plumbed through her thrusters. Fog production, audio, strobe lights and other systems were powered by huge D-cell marine batteries and controlled by a complex control console built into her cockpit. She was retired in 2012 after 80 million meters of flight. She was photographed by millions over her service and attendance encompassing parades, funeral processions, wedding limo service and other charitable events.
