First coats of epoxy were necessary to protect the framer's matting material from Gulf Coast humidity. While perfect for creating the shape, the material is still a paper product and will distort in shape if too moist.

As wings and tail were so well shaped, epoxy was applied directly to those surfaces. Some stippling resulted from spreading on raw open cell foam, but no chemical reaction was observed.
